Two visitor centers

The Oze-Yamanohana Visitor Center is on the western side of Ozegahara Marsh, and the Ozenuma Visitor Center is on the eastern shore of Lake Ozenuma.

Ozenuma Visitor Center

A base for conservation activities in and around lake Ozenuma/Mt. Hiuchigatake and a source of information

The Ozenuma Visitor Center is located on the Aizu-Numata Kaido road on the eastern shore of Lake Ozenuma. The staff at the center provide information on Oze’s natural environment. During opening hours, slide shows titled “The Four Seasons of Oze National Park” and “The Four Seasons of Ozenuma” are given hourly.

The Ozenuma Visitor Center was built in 1984 by the Ministry of the Environment. It conducts conservation activities such as information provision, patrolling, environmental interpretation and vegetation restoration.

Oze-Yamanohana Visitor Center

Activities in and around Ozegahara Marsh/Mt. Shibutsu and a source of information

The Oze-Yamanohana Visitor Center is located at the access point to Ozegahara Marsh. The Foundation staff stationed at the center provide information on Oze’s natural environment. Daily nature information collected by staff is posted at the center, so feel free to drop by before exploring the area.

The Oze-Yamanohana Visitor Center was built in 1994 by the Gunma Prefectural Government. It is operated by the Oze Preservation Foundation, and conducts conservation activities such as information provision, patrolling and environmental interpretation.

Main services of the visitor centers

To help visitors appreciate the preciousness of the environment through interaction with Oze’s natural surroundings as well as to help people treat Oze appropriately and enjoy it safely, the visitor centers provide the following services:

Information counter service Staff are available to answer questions on a variety of topics.
Nature observation tours Staff take visitors around areas near the centers and talk about Oze’s natural environment.
Slide shows As a service mainly for those staying at lodges, pictures taken by staff are shown in the lecture room late in the afternoons on weekends, explaining the nature, history and conservation of Oze.
Group lectures Nature observation tours and slide shows are provided for schools and groups making arrangements in advance.
Provision of information on Oze’s natural environment To provide visitors with information and check boardwalks and trails, staff patrol Oze on a weekly basis, collect information and make announcements on the Internet or in newspapers.
Maintenance of public bathrooms The bathrooms are cleaned every day.
Restoration of vegetation To restore marshes that have turned bare, vegetation restoration is implemented as part of projects by the Ministry of the Environment and the relevant prefectures.
Videos and slide shows Videos are shown and slide shows are put on at fixed times in the lecture rooms of the visitor centers.
Exhibitions Information on local animals and plants, weather and the environment are posted at the centers.
Special exhibitions are occasionally held on certain themes.
